Application Dossier
To participate in the 2027-30 fellowship competition, applicants are expected to submit an online application and the following documents by November 22, 2026.
-
Cover Letter: 1-2 single-spaced pages maximum, addressed to the search committee.
-
Curriculum Vitae: A comprehensive CV, including a list of publications and research languages.
-
A statement of research plans: We expect a research statement of up to 5 pages. For most applicants, it will be a proposal to revise the dissertation for publication. However, if you have given serious thought to a second research project, and / or already prepared your dissertation for publication, you may dedicate some or most of the five pages to this new project.
-
Dissertation Abstract: Maximum 1 page.
-
Proof of Ph.D. or Progress to Degree
For applicants with the Ph.D. degree: A document confirming your completion of all requirements for the Ph.D. degree. This may be a formal Ph.D. certificate, an official transcript, or a letter from your dean, graduate school, or registrar.
For ABD (All But Dissertation) applicants: A letter from the Department Chair or Director of Graduate Studies confirming your "progress to degree." The "progress to degree" letter should state that the candidate has a substantial portion of the dissertation written at the time of application and is fully expected to have completed all requirements for the PhD, including filing and defense, by September 1, 2027. Should a finalist not be able to meet this deadline, a fellowship offer would have to be rescinded.
-
Two Confidential Letters of Recommendation: As part of their online application, applicants will be prompted to contact two referees via email, asking them to upload their confidential letters of recommendation to the application portal. One letter is expected from the applicant's doctoral supervisor(s). If there are multiple supervisors, a joint letter is required. Another letter should arrive from a scholar outside the applicant's university. Referees will receive instructions and a secure link to upload their letters. Letters should be on institutional letterhead and signed; they may be addressed to the search committee. Recommendation letters are accepted until November 22, 2026.
